British teenager who killed family, planned school massacre sentenced to 49 years

A 19-year-old British man, Nicholas Prosper, who murdered his mother and two younger siblings and planned a high-profile school shooting, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 49 years before parole eligibility, according to AP News.

The sentencing took place at Luton Crown Court on Wednesday, where Justice Bobbie Cheema-Grubb described the case as one of the most horrific she had encountered.

Prosper admitted to killing his mother, Juliana Falcon, 48, his 13-year-old sister Giselle Prosper, and his 16-year-old brother Kyle Prosper at their family home in Luton, Bedfordshire, on 13 September. He used a legally owned shotgun to carry out the murders.

During the sentencing, Justice Cheema-Grubb revealed that Prosper had planned to emulate and surpass infamous US school shootings, such as the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in December 2012 and the Virginia Tech shooting in April 2007.

The judge noted that she had considered imposing a full life order, which would have meant Prosper would never be released from prison. However, she decided against it due to his age—he was 18 at the time of the murders—and his guilty plea.
