Bulgaria, Turkey and Romania will set on foot operations to search for and clear mines in the Black Sea, Bulgarian Defence Minister Todor Tagarev said on Friday.
Tagarev made the following statement at the international conference on “Achieving Peace in Ukraine” held in Bulgaria’s capital of Sofia:
Some very small details need to be concretized before the operation begins. This operation will increase the security in the territorial waters of our countries.
Nevertheless, the participation of the Ukrainian side in the demining operations is not envisaged.
“The biggest threat to Bulgaria’s national security is Russia,” he said adding that Russia disrupts stability in the Black Sea region by damaging free movement when it hold exercises in the exclusive economic zone.
The topics that will be hold during the conference agenda are the prospects for peace in Ukraine, strategies and ways to achieve security in the Black Sea region, the role of NATO and the European Union, and the future of the European security architecture.
