Bulgarian parliament chooses spokesperson at 11th attempt

Bulgaria’s parliament has chosen a spokesperson at the 11th attempt, Bulgarian media reported on Friday.

140 MPs voted in favour of Nataliya Kiselov, nominated by the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and Left. Ninety-three MPs voted against.

Kiselov, who is considered one of the country’s best-known experts on constitutional law, has promised to represent and govern parliament neutrally.

“Compromises (in the parliament) will be subject to discussion but when a decision is made, it will be observed,” she said.

The latest early parliamentary elections, the sixth since 2021, were held on October 27 after three attempts to form a government following the last election failed in June.
Since April, the country has been ruled by an interim government led by Dimitar Glavcev.
