Canada to provide critical minerals, energy to Japan

Canada can supply Japan with critical minerals and energy, Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly said.

The foreign minister made the statement at a meeting with her Japanese counterpart ahead of bilateral talks in Tokyo on Tuesday. Joly said:

We believe your security is our security, and we believe also that we can provide you support in terms of energy and critical minerals which is so important to the Japanese people.

A two-day meeting of G7 foreign ministers begins on Tuesday, with ministers from wealthy industrialised nations such as the US, Canada and Japan.

Earlier, Canada has signed a joint action plan with the United States to advance secure supply chains for critical minerals. It has similar critical minerals cooperation agreements with the European Union.
