Canadian PM condemned Netanyahu’s remarks about airstrike on aid workers

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau denounced statements by his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, arguing that the airstrike on aid workers “doesn’t just happen,” CBC News reported.

Netanyahu stated that the airstrike killing seven employees of the non-governmental organisation World Central Kitchen (WCK) earlier this week was “a tragic case of our forces unintentionally hitting innocent people in the Gaza Strip.”

This happens in wartime.

A dual Canadian and US citizen was among the victims. Trudeau called for an investigation into the incident.

“We need a fully open, transparent, independent and rapid investigation into what happened. The reality is we need much more humanitarian support to flow into Gaza, much more protection of civilians, of innocents and of aid workers.”

He also reiterated the call for a humanitarian ceasefire and the release of hostages to “allow this humanitarian catastrophe to end as quickly as possible.”

The non-profit organisation providing food to people in disaster and war zones urged an independent investigation into the killing of its staff. The WCK also announced that it was ceasing its activities in the region.
