China and Venezuela have signed several documents on bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and tourism – China’s state broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV), Wednesday.
In order to strengthen cooperation between the two nations, Chinese President Xi Jinping signed agreements with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro after a meeting in Beijing, according to Reuters.
Xi noted that both countries are “good friends with mutual trust.” He also recalled that next year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Venezuela.
The countries also signed agreements on the economy and trade, science and technology, civil aviation and aerospace.
Venezuela said it actively supports China’s Belt and Road Initiative created to develop global trade infrastructure. According to state media, China has signed cooperation agreements under the Belt and Road Initiative with more than 150 countries and more than 30 international organisations.
Maduro claimed that Venezuela was ready to discuss cooperation with China in such frameworks as BRICS and the United Nations.
Caracas is actively trying to join BRICS, an alliance that has recently been actively developing and gaining new members.
