China executes two men who killed at least 43 in car rampage, stabbing

Chinese authorities executed two men who carried out deadly attacks that left dozens of people dead in November, according to CBS News.

Fan Weiqu, 62, who drove his car into a crowd outside a sports stadium in the southern city of Zhuhai, was executed on Monday. He killed at least 35 people and seriously injured at least 43 others, state media reported.

Police said Fan, who committed the attack ahead of the country’s main aviation exhibition, was upset about a divorce agreement.

Xu Jiajin, 21, killed eight people and injured 17 others in a knife attack at a vocational school in the eastern city of Wuxi.

He had failed exams and could not graduate and was unhappy with his salary at his internship, police officials reported.

Both attacks took place in November, with the perpetrators executed on Monday, 20 January. The incidents prompted Chinese President Xi Jinping to encourage local governments to adopt measures to prevent so-called “revenge on society crimes.”
