Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday said the Chinese people will make greater achievements and contribute even more to the noble cause of peace and human development, Chinese media reported.
Xi Jinping, who is also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the statement at the House of People’s Congress in Beijing at a reception marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Addressing some 3,000 members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and foreign dignitaries on Monday, the eve of China’s bank holidays, Xi praised China’s progress since communist forces overthrew the Nationalist government and established the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
Xi said “no hardship can stop the Chinese people from moving forward” but urged the population to be “vigilant,” prepare for danger and rely on the party and its army in difficult times. He said:
“The road ahead will not be smooth, there will definitely be difficulties and obstacles, and we may encounter major tests such as high winds and rough seas, or even stormy waves.”
The reception was chaired by Li Qiang. Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng, as well as about 3,000 Chinese and foreign guests attended the event.
In his speech, Xi Jinping, on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, expressed his highest respect for the country’s multi-ethnic people, commanders and fighters of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and the People’s Armed Police, members of democratic parties and non-party activists.
He also conveyed his sincere greetings to compatriots in the special administrative regions of Xiangyang and Aomeng, compatriots in Taiwan and members of the Chinese diaspora abroad, and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to friendly countries and international friends who care for and support the cause of China’s nation-building.
According to Xi Jinping, the central task of the Party and the country on the new path in the new era is to comprehensively promote the construction of a strong state and national rejuvenation through Chinese-style modernisation.
Continuously pushing forward this great cause, unprecedented in world history, is the best way to mark the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese leader said.
Xi Jinping pointed out that in order to promote China-style modernisation, it is necessary to constantly adhere to the key leadership role of the Party in overseeing and coordinating the efforts of all parties, steadfastly follow the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, continue to comprehensively deepen reform and openness, adopt a people-centred approach, and remain committed to peaceful development.
