Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered the Coast Guard to step up efforts to assert sovereignty over islets in the East China Sea.
The Coast Guard drawn up a plan to send ships on daily patrols throughout 2024 near the islets, called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China.
Moreover, Coast Guard ships are allowed to conduct on-site inspections of Japanese fishing vessels if necessary.
China-Japan relations have long been strained by a territorial dispute over a group of tiny uninhabited islets.
