Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, met with a delegation from the US Chamber of Commerce led by Suzanne P. Clark, President and CEO of the US Chamber of Commerce, at the Great Hall of the People on 28 February, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China reports.
Since the summit meeting of Chinese and US heads of state in San Francisco last November, the two sides have held a series of dialogues and communications to promote pragmatic cooperation between the two countries, Li Qiang said.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the US. On this occasion, Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden exchanged congratulatory letters, stressing their unwavering commitment to the stabilisation and development of China-US relations for the benefit of both countries and the world.
The practice of the past 45 years has repeatedly proved that both China and the US benefit from cooperation. Based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, China is willing to jointly implement with the US the important common agreements reached between the two heads of state to promote the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.
Li Qiang noted that the economies of China and the US are highly complementary, and the interests of both countries are deeply integrated. Both sides benefit from each other’s development, and strengthening economic and trade cooperation is beneficial to both countries. Both sides should be partners, not rivals. Disengagement and breaking up supply chains or “small yard, high fences” in any forms are not in the fundamental interests of both sides and will bring huge losses to the two countries’ enterprises, economies and even global development.
Recently, China has been promoting Chinese modernisation on all fronts through high-quality development and will continue to unleash huge demand in advanced manufacturing, new urbanisation, upgrading consumption patterns, green and low-carbon transformation and other aspects.
Clark emphasised that the US-China relationship is extremely important. She expressed satisfaction that the two heads of state held a successful summit meeting in San Francisco and that relations between the two countries are showing an improving momentum.
Clark said the US Chamber of Commerce is willing to serve as a bridge, have frank and constructive communication and exchanges with the Chinese side, make efforts to deepen US-China economic and trade relations and mutually beneficial cooperation, and promote the steady development of US-China relations. Wu Zhenglong also attended the meeting.
