Iran and the United States will hold a second round of negotiations on 19 April. This follows indirect discussions in Muscat, Oman, which both sides described as “constructive”, according to Iran’s Foreign Ministry.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met US Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, for two and a half hours. Their conversation focused on Iran’s nuclear programme and possible sanctions relief.
As the meeting ended, the heads of both delegations spoke briefly in the presence of Oman’s foreign minister. The two sides agreed to continue talks the following week.
Next steps towards an agreement
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Araghchi said the talks took place in a calm and respectful atmosphere. He noted that neither side used inappropriate language, and both showed a clear willingness to reach a balanced agreement.
Araghchi confirmed the next round will take place on Saturday, though the location may change. He said both delegations aim to agree on a general framework during the next session and expressed hope for quick progress.
“We’re working to create a negotiation agenda with a timeline,” he explained. “We hope this will lead to serious talks in the near future.”
Earlier in March, US President Donald Trump said he had sent a letter to Iranian leaders, delivered through the United Arab Emirates, to propose discussions on the nuclear issue. Iran later confirmed it had received the letter and signalled interest in indirect engagement.
