The Teamsters Union said its members at retailer Costco Wholesale voted in favour of a nationwide strike, Reuters reported.
The move came ahead of the final round of negotiations for a new contract as the master agreement between the two sides expires on 31 January.
The union, which represented more than 18,000 Costco workers, claimed 85 per cent of its members voted to authorise the strike.
The vote is a direct result of the company’s continued failure to bargain constructively.
The Teamsters also said the final week of negotiations would begin on Monday, 20 January.
