Princess Mette-Marit of Norway has cancelled a planned trip to Germany for health reasons.
The Norwegian royal court said on Tuesday that the princess will not be able to visit the country due to a worsening health condition caused by chronic pulmonary fibrosis. The queen has now been on sick leave for at least two weeks.
She was due to visit the city of Leipzig, where the International Book Fair will be held at the end of the month.
The Crown Princess is an avid reader and regularly attends events to promote literature.
The Royal Court also confirmed its statement of March 6:
“The Crown Princess needs more rest, and her daily routine is changing more quickly than before. This means that changes to her official schedule may occur more frequently, and at shorter notice than we are used to.”
The Crown Princess has been battling the deadly disease, pulmonary fibrosis, since 2018. In it, the tissue of the slight is damaged and scarring forms at the site of the wound. Over time, the disease progresses, causing breathing problems. Patients with this diagnosis have to take medication for the rest of their lives.
The princess had to announce her ailment to explain her absence from official events.
