Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s sick leave has been extended amid the unfolding scandal surrounding her eldest son Marius.
In a brief statement, the Norwegian royal court said on Wednesday that the future queen will be on sick leave until November 5 “due to the side effects of medication that the crown princess must take to treat her chronic lung disease.”
The court had earlier announced that Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who was diagnosed with chronic pulmonary fibrosis in 2018, had resumed treatment and would be on sick leave due to side effects of medication earlier in October.
Amid ongoing health problems, it has emerged that Crown Princess Mette-Marit may have warned her son Marius Borg Høiby that he would be arrested on August 4, and she cleaned his flat before the arrest and that she took him to meet arresting officers.
According to Norwegian newspaper VG, Crown Princess Mette-Marit was involved in the events leading up to her son’s arrest and may now be questioned by police about her role, another Norwegian broadcaster NRK reported.
Why Marius was arrested
Princess Mette-Marit’s son is accused of beating his girlfriend, who even had to seek medical attention. He trashed her flat: there was a completely broken chandelier and a knife was stuck in the wall, broken furniture.
It also became known that Marius was forbidden to appear in the flat in Skaugum, where his mother and his stepfather live. In September, it was revealed that the royal trinkets were missing after Marius threw a wild party in the flat.
Soon more girls who had suffered at the hands of Marius Borg were found. He was arrested twice, but was released on bail, while the investigation continued. Then there was another episode: Marius violated a restraining order, he threatened a girl. It came to the point that she had to leave the country, as she was “hunted” by an assassin.
Marius Borg Høiby was later arrested at the Jansløkka school in Asker, where he met with the police as agreed. The school is just a stone’s throw from the large estate of the Crown Prince’s family. Victims’ lawyers for the cases Marius is accused of have already spoken out about how shocked they are. The Royal House has not responded to media enquiries.
