Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden extends military training

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden intends to continue her military training in the Swedish Air Force. In an interview with TV4, the Crown Princess said that she will continue her military training this autumn.

When asked about her future plans in the army, Victoria replied: “I will continue. I still have a lot to learn.”

Speaking about the next stage of her training would take place in the Air Force, she replied: “Yes. This autumn, the focus will be on the Air Force, which I am looking forward to.”

The Crown Princess did not confirm whether she would fly helicopters or aeroplanes. She also spoke about her plans for spring 2026.

“There will be innovations in the army at the end of spring,” Victoria said. She also declined to comment on whether her children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar, would undergo military training: “Everything in its own time. Right now, I can only speak for myself.”

Princess Victoria’s military training

In May, Swedish Crown Princess Victoria officially received the military rank of second lieutenant after completing her officer training, the country’s armed forces announced.

Her military training began in the spring of 2024 in Stockholm’s amphibious regiment, where she completed her basic service, effectively repeating her 2003 military experience. In the autumn of that year, Victoria began an intensive officer training programme aimed at people with higher education.

The training is part of the Crown Princess’s efforts to continuously expand her knowledge in preparation for her future mission as head of state.

The training includes both theoretical and practical components. Part of the training takes place at the National Defence College, but most of the System Overview Follow-up (SOFU) training is also conducted in various units of the Armed Forces. The training took place amid growing tensions in Europe and against a backdrop of large-scale militarisation.
