Czech Republic paid $710 million to Ukrainian refugees since outbreak of war

Ukrainian refugees who left for the Czech Republic after the outbreak of war in February 2022 received humanitarian aid totalling 16.33 billion crowns (about $710 million), Idnes informed.

Currently, the Czech Republic hosts about 383,000 refugees from Ukraine, of whom 98,000 are children and teenagers under the age of 18, 170,000 are women aged between 18 and 65, and another 15.5 thousand are elderly people over 65. According to the country’s Ministry of Education, about 50 thousand children from Ukraine attend Czech schools.

On 29 January, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave an interview to the German public broadcaster ARD, where he discussed the issue of providing assistance to Ukrainian refugees abroad, particularly in Germany. Zelensky noted that in some cases, those who left Ukraine received social benefits both from Kyiv and from the country in which they resided.

It would be much better for us if Germany supported Ukrainians by giving money to the Ukrainian budget, and then Ukraine would redistribute this money depending on where the person is located.
