David Beckham appointed as royal charity ambassador

Prominent soccer star David Beckham exchanged beekeeping tips with King Charles when they met ahead of the former England captain’s appointment as the King’s Foundation ambassador.

Beckham met with King at Highgrove Gardens in the Cotswolds, England, according to CNN. There he also met with King’s Foundation students who practised skills, such as woodworking and embroidery, in specialised workshops.

It was inspiring to hear from The King about the work of His Majesty’s Foundation during my recent visit to Highgrove Gardens – and compare beekeeping tips.

In his work with The King’s Foundation, David Beckham hopes to spread awareness of the charity’s mission. The foundation originally took the name The Prince’s Foundation. It emerged after a number of Charles‘ charitable projects merged into one group in 2018.

The foundation “provides holistic solutions to challenges facing the world today,” according to its official website. It also runs education and training programmes in subjects, such as traditional art, architecture, design, science, engineering, horticulture, wellbeing, and hospitality.

However, the charity was dragged into a cash-for-honours scandal over allegations that then chief executive Michael Fawcett helped nominate Saudi businessman Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz for the title of Honorary Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

A spokesman for Charles claimed at the time that “the Prince of Wales had no knowledge of the alleged offer of honours or British citizenship on the basis of donations to his charities.” Last year, London’s Metropolitan Police announced it would take no further action on the investigation.
