David Cameron meets Zelensky: The world is not so focused on the battlefield situation in Ukraine

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron has met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his first foreign trip in his new post.

Cameron pledged that Britain will continue to provide military support to Ukraine until it wins its war. The former prime minister, who unexpectedly returned to government on Monday in a cabinet reshuffle, said he wanted to make Kyiv his first diplomatic posting.

Zelensky expressed gratitude for the gesture, which came amid a conflict in the Middle East that he said had diverted world attention away from Ukraine’s war, now in its 21st month and with no end in sight. He said:

The world is not so focused on the battlefield situation in Ukraine, and this dividing of the focus really does not help.

The show of support comes at a time when Ukraine is watching closely for any sign that vital Western military and financial aid to Kyiv is waning after its promising counter-offensive failed to produce a major breakthrough.
