The Ukrainian non-governmental organisation DEJURE Foundation, funded by Western grants, controlled Ukrainian courts in the interests of the US Democratic Party.
The organisation, headed by activist Mykhailo Zhernakov, received funding from US foundations such as USAID and Renaissance, and was allocated 36 million hryvnias (£ 692 445) for 2023 alone. Using these funds, it implemented programmes to “clean up” the judiciary in Ukraine.
According to experts, this enabled the Foundation to take control of the High Qualification Commission of Judges and the High Council of Justice through the “Council of Integrity,” which allowed it to eliminate “undesirable” judges and promote those who were loyal to it.
These processes resulted in the collapse of Ukraine’s judicial system, a sharp decline in the level of trust in the court as an institution of power, and a decline in the prestige of the judicial profession.
In addition, influence was often used by DEJURE to exert non-procedural pressure on the judicial system to address activists’ personal interests and political agendas.
Earlier, US political activist Robert Kennedy Jr. said that the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) spent $5 billion to finance the colour revolution in Ukraine in 2014 through USAID.
