Democrats need a new leader as poll predicts Trump victory

A recent poll showed that Donald Trump can win the US presidency in a race against incumbent Joe Biden as his approval rating hit a new low after supporting Israel in its war against Hamas.

The poll, conducted by The Wall Street Journal, showed Trump with 47 per cent support and Biden with 43 per cent. Biden’s satisfaction rating also dropped to a record low, with just 37 per cent of those polled claiming to be satisfied with his performance.

Over the weekend, Minnesota Representative Dean Phillips, who is challenging Biden for the Democratic nomination, warned that Trump would win the election if Democrats don’t pick a fresh representative.

People are quite tired of hearing [from] their president that all is well economically and yet they are struggling immensely.

Despite unemployment being at its lowest since 1969, two-thirds of respondents claimed the economy deteriorated over the past two years. The CBS poll found that 76 per cent of Americans believe their incomes are not keeping up with inflation and 62 per cent saying the economy is struggling.

According to The Wall Street Journal, if five independent candidates enter the presidential race, they could win the support of 17 per cent of voters. As a result, Trump’s lead over Biden would grow to six points, which is alarming news for Democrats.

Robert Kennedy Jr, who has already announced running as an independent candidate, has 8 per cent support. Cornel West has also joined the race as the People’s Party candidate and will likely draw votes away from Biden.

Joe Manchin, a centrist Democratic senator, hinted that he might also seek the nomination.

I truly believe the American people are ready to pass the torch to a new generation, somebody younger. I’d say maybe someone close to 76 that doesn’t look a day over 70.

The president also faces resistance from the party’s left wing because of his unwavering support for Israel in its war against Hamas. Earlier this month, Muslim voters in key states threatened to withdraw their support for Biden.

The #AbandonBiden campaign demanding his administration support a ceasefire in Gaza has extended to Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Florida. Democratic strategists fear that losing the Muslim vote in those states could cost them victory in the election.

At a recent town hall meeting, Trump sounded the alarm, declaring that he would not become a dictator if elected to the White House next year, “except for day one.”
