Denmark to sell F-16s to Argentina, leaving fewer jets for Ukraine

Denmark will sell 24 of its F-16 combat aircraft to Argentina at an estimated price of 2.1 billion kroner ($300 million) after receiving US approval for its first major defence purchase.

Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen met with his Argentine counterpart Luis Petri in Buenos Aires on Tuesday to sign a statement of intent for the sale.

Denmark, which is also transferring 19 F-16s to Ukraine, is replacing its existing fleet with F-35s, although delivery of the new combat aircraft faces delays due to technological hurdles at manufacturer Lockheed Martin Corp.

The Danish Ministry of Defence will deliver F-16s to Argentina within “the coming years,” with the sale agreed in “close coordination” with the US government, which has approved the deal.
