A zoo in the Danish city of Aalborg has suggested feeding unwanted pets to predators.
Some of the pets they’re looking for are rabbits, guinea pigs, and chickens. They’re taking them in on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the zoo will only take up to four animals per person per day.
As explained by representatives of the institution, predatory animals need not only food, but also prey that is as close as possible to what they would find in the wild. This approach not only avoids unnecessary waste, but also promotes the natural behaviour and well-being of the animals.
The zoo’s website has posted an online appeal for animal donations, accompanied by a photo of a wild cat with a snarl and a link to detailed information. Among the possible “donations” are not only small animals, but also horses. The zoo offers a tax deduction for the transfer of horses.
The zoo notes that the animal will be euthanised and used as feed. However, there are conditions: the horse must be fit for transport and must not have undergone treatment in the last month.
