A DHL cargo plane crashed into a house on Monday morning near the Lithuanian capital, killing at least one person.
The country’s police chief said the plane went down shortly before landing at Vilnius airport.
According to police, at 05:31 a.m. on Monday, the duty desk received a report that a cargo plane had crashed in a residential neighbourhood in Vilnius on Zhirniu Street. Four people were reportedly on board – two pilots and two company representatives.
Rescuers freed the pilot, he regained consciousness. Two victims were taken to the hospital, one person died. It is not excluded that the number of injured may increase.
According to eyewitnesses, a section of road from Dzuku Street to Maxima shop on Lepkalneux Street is closed.
According to Flightradar24.com, a DHL Boeing 737-400 freighter registered as EC-MFE, operating flight QY5690 from Leipzig-Halle Airport to Vilnius Airport (VNO), crashed near Liepkalnis Hill in the final minutes of the approach.
The crash site is located close to residential buildings.
