Dozens evacuated after flooding in central and northern Spain

Spain continues to be affected by heavy rain and flooding in several regions on Monday, leading to the evacuation of residents and destruction.

The Spanish provinces of Toledo, Madrid and Ávila continue to experience problems caused by heavy rainfall and river flooding.

Flooding in the municipality of Escalona, Toledo, forced the evacuation of about 100 families where the Alberche River overflowed its banks, flooding homes. Locals fear further deterioration of the situation as water levels in reservoirs approach critical levels.

Residents of Escalona tell of the devastation caused by the elements. Many have lost property and are forced to seek temporary shelter with relatives.

Authorities are monitoring the situation, especially the water level in the Burgillo Reservoir, which discharges water into the Alberche River. Authorities in the Castilla-La Mancha region are providing assistance to those affected.

In Avila, the situation has stabilised, although the flood damage is significant.

Meteorologists are forecasting worsening weather in some areas, including in the northern regions, where heavy rainfall and storm warnings are expected.
