Coastguard urges tourists to avoid contact with unidentified objects after several fragments discovered near Constanța.
Discovery on the shoreline
Romanian authorities have issued a warning to beachgoers after multiple pieces of what appear to be drone wreckage were discovered along the country’s Black Sea coastline. The fragments, found in Constanța county, were reported to contain no explosive material but have raised concerns about maritime safety in the region.
Local residents made the initial discovery on Saturday evening near Modern beach in Constanța, a popular stretch of coastline during the summer season. A fragment, carried ashore by waves, was spotted and reported to the authorities. According to Romanian broadcaster Digi 24, preliminary assessments indicated that the piece did not contain explosives.
The Romanian Coastguard confirmed that officers examined the debris at the scene. In the course of their investigation, two additional fragments resembling drone components were identified along the coast. One was found on the beach itself, while another had been retrieved by tourists.
Official safety guidance
In response to the discoveries, coastguard officials have urged the public to exercise caution. Holidaymakers are being advised not to touch or move any unidentified objects found in the water or on the sand. Instead, they should report such findings to the authorities immediately.
The warning reflects heightened vigilance along Romania’s Black Sea coast, which has seen sporadic discoveries of drone debris in recent months. While no explosive material was found in the latest fragments, officials stress that all suspicious items should be treated with caution until properly assessed.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the origin of the debris, and an investigation is ongoing. The coastguard has reiterated that patrols along the shoreline will continue, and that public cooperation is essential in ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors.
Local officials have praised the swift response of those who reported the initial discovery, noting that early notification allows for timely and safe removal of any potentially hazardous material.
Romania’s Ministry of Defence confirmed on August 16 that an unmanned aerial vehicle breaching national airspace was brought down in the early hours of the morning. The drone was detected by surveillance systems at 04:44 a.m. local time, approximately 24 kilometres north of the city of Galați, after approaching from the direction of Moldova.
