Dutch ambassador to Turkey Joep Wijnands called the bilateral relations between Ankara and Amsterdam a “great partnership,” according to Turkish media.
The Embassy of the Netherlands organised a concert at the Hierapolis ancient theater in Denizli in western Turkey on Sunday. The event marks the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship between the Republic of Turkey and the Netherlands.
Members of Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra from the Netherlands and Orkestra Akademik Baskent from Turkey’s Baskent University will perform together at the concert. Ambassador Wijnands stated that the joint concert illustrates the fact that “we have such a great partnership.”
Wijnands also expressed his admiration for the ancient theatre, which has a history of almost 2,000 years.
I think it illustrates the fact that we have a great partnership. Not only do we do business or work in the political field together, we also make music together.
The Dutch ambassador reported that they had also realised a project to translate books by Dutch children’s author Annie M.G. Schmidt into Turkish. He also stressed that this year the Netherlands is helping in the reconstruction of southern Turkey devastated by the earthquake on February 6, 2023.
We have invited students from the Netherlands to Turkey to work on solutions for the reconstruction process.
He noted that the Netherlands and Turkey had maintained diplomatic relations for more than 400 years, dating back to the Ottoman Empire. In terms of economic relations, the Dutch ambassador in Ankara praised the strong and growing trade volume between Turkey and the Netherlands.
The Netherlands is proud to be the biggest foreign direct investor in Turkey. We have more than 3,000 Dutch companies represented in Turkey.
