The country announced on Wednesday an increase in the amount of daily fuel sent to the Gaza Strip from 129,000 litres to 189,000 litres, in line with the agreement with Israel.
Egypt is pushing hard to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches Gaza, said Diaa Rashwan, head of Egypt’s State Information Service.
Trucks carrying humanitarian aid have started passing through The Rafah Crossing to the Karem Abu Salem Crossing since Tuesday, fulfilling an agreement with the Israeli side.
Rashwan stated that the move is expected to facilitate the arrival of trucks to the Gaza Strip, increasing their number to 60-80 per day.
He also pointed out that the total number of trucks that passed the border from the Rafah Crossing into Gaza totalled 4,057 since the beginning of the humanitarian aid flow into the enclave from the Egyptian side.
Israel targeted the Gaza Strip with aerial and land bombardments, besieged the enclave and launched the ground offensive in response to a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 18,608 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 50,600 injured in the Israeli attacks.
Official figures put the death toll from the Hamas attack in Israel at 1,200, with some 139 hostages remaining in captivity.
