Elon Musk refutes reports that he donates $45 million each month to a super PAC supporting former US President Donald Trump ahead of the November election, according to Fox Business.
“What’s been reported in the media is simply not true. I am not donating $45 million a month to Trump.”
This comes after The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk planned to donate $45 million a month to America PAC. It handles voter registration and encourages residents of swing states to vote early and request mail-in ballots to counter Democrats’ “get out the vote” campaigns and on-the-ground efforts.
Trump, in an apparent reference to the report, claimed at a campaign rally on Saturday that he read that Musk was giving him $45 million a month.
He didn’t even tell me about it.
However, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO stated on Tuesday that he did plan to donate to America PAC, but at a “much lower level.”
“I am making some donations to America PAC, but at a much lower level and the key values of the PAC are supporting a meritocracy & individual freedom.”
Musk said he helped create America PAC, which he said would support Trump but “is not supposed to be a sort of hyperpartisan.”
It’s actually the core principles this America PAC are, the intent is to promote the principles that made America great in the first place. I wouldn’t say that I’m, for example, MAGA, or Make America Great Again. I think America is great. I’m more M-A-G, Make America Greater.
In an interview with conservative commentator Jordan Peterson, Musk claimed he was attracted to Trump because he felt the Republican Party was more in line with his positions on issues such as meritocracy and freedom.
“One of those values being meritocracy, as much meritocracy as possible, so you get ahead as a function of your skill, and nothing else.”
He also stated that he did not hold any “cult of personality” around Trump, but believed the former president had showed “great courage” after surviving the assassination attempt.
I think we need a change in administration.
Earlier, Musk also donated $100,000 to a GoFundMe page authorised by Trump to help victims of the shooting at a campaign rally and their families. One rally attendee died while protecting his wife and daughter from gunfire, and two other spectators were injured.
