Elon Musk to meet with Israel’s president and Gaza hostage families

Space X owner Elon Musk, accused of anti-Semitism on his social media platform X, formerly Twitter, is to meet with Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Monday along with Israelis whose relatives are being kept by Hamas in Gaza.

The Herzog’s administration announced the meeting on Sunday night.

In their meeting, the president will emphasize the need to act to combat rising antisemitism online.

Musk’s visit coincides with a four-day truce in Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip, with 40 of the 240 Hamas-kept hostages being returned to Israel.

Major US companies, including Walt Disney (DIS.N), Warner Bros Discovery (WBD.O) and NBCUniversal parent Comcast (CMCSA.O), have suspended their advertising on the X social network due to Musk’s statements.

On 15 November, he agreed to a post on X that falsely claimed Jews were inciting hatred against white people. Musk claimed that the user who referred to the Great Replacement conspiracy theory was speaking “the actual truth.”

In a lawsuit “thermonuclear” lawsuit against Media Matters, filed in federal court in Texas on November 20, X accused Media Matters of manipulating the site’s algorithm to “drive advertisers off the platform and destroy X Corp.”
