EP approves Roxana Minzatu as vice-president of European Commission

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Wednesday that the European Parliament has approved Mrs. Roxana Minzatu as Vice President of the European Commission and with the “appropriate portfolio” of European Commissioner.

Ciolacu wrote on Facebook:

“The European Parliament has validated Mrs. Roxana Minzatu as vice-president of the European Commission and with a relevant portfolio of European commissioner. It is another important step for increasing the profile of our country at the level of the European Union.”

He added that unfortunately, “some people from the country” forgot that in Brussels “we are all Romanians, that we have to fight for Romania, regardless of ideology and tried to block this candidacy for personal political calculations.”

Earlier, POLITICO, citing parliamentary and political officials, reported that the European Parliament approved the entire composition of the new European Commission.

The review process was postponed more than a week ago due to political differences between the European People’s Party and the Socialists and Democrats. The process stalled when MPs began vetting the six executive vice presidents of the European Commission, as well as the European commissioner from Hungary.
