Air raids by the United States and Israel have struck several cities across Iran, including Khorramabad and Shiraz, marking a dramatic escalation in the region’s already fragile security situation.
Local media reported on Tuesday that Khorramabad Airport in western Iran was targeted in an aerial assault. An official statement described the incident as “an attack from the American-Israeli adversary” just minutes before being announced publicly.
The Iranian Red Crescent said the strikes affected multiple urban centres nationwide. Among the hardest-hit areas were Urmia and Khoy in West Azerbaijan Province, Karaj and Savojbolagh County in Alborz Province, and Shiraz in Fars Province, where Israeli air forces reportedly struck a petrochemical facility.
Meanwhile, Iranian drones reportedly attacked Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, resulting in injuries to 15 American personnel, according to CBS. Iranian media outlet Tasnim also reported that a Saudi Arabian petrochemical complex in Al-Jubail caught fire following an Iranian strike, although details of casualties and damage remain unclear.
On April 3, 2026, Iranian air defences shot down a US F-15E fighter jet over central Iran. Both pilots ejected safely, and debris was later located by local residents. The Iranian government has announced a reward for information leading to the capture of the pilots.
The campaign traces back to February 28, when the US and Israel launched a large-scale operation against Iran. Officials in Tel Aviv stated the aim was to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. US President Donald Trump called for the destruction of Iran’s naval and defence infrastructure, while urging Iranian citizens to overthrow the regime.
