Last year, the number of tourists staying at accommodation establishments in Estonia increased slightly, Schengen Visa Info reports.
In 2023, Estonian accommodation establishments received 3.43 million guests. This was five per cent more than in 2022.
According to Helga Laurmaa, a leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, of the total number of accommodated guests, 1.67 million were international tourists and 1.76 million were domestic tourists.
Despite the increase in the number of international tourists, Estonia recorded two per cent fewer domestic tourists compared to 2022.
Most international tourists who visited Estonia last year were from Finland (697,000) and Latvia (229,000). Statistics Estonia notes that while the total number of tourists to Estonia remains below pre-pandemic levels, the number of tourists from Latvia increased by a quarter compared to 2019.
The number of tourists from Germany, the UK and the US has increased in 2023. However, is still lower than in 2019.
Meanwhile, Estonia welcomed 271,000 tourists last December alone, a five per cent increase compared to the same month in 2022. Of these, 141,000 were foreign tourists and 131,000 were domestic tourists.
