EU agri-food exports reaches record level in 2024

EU agri-food exports reached a record level of 235.4 billion euros in 2024 despite ongoing global challenges, the European Commission (EC) said.

“EU agri-food exports reached €235.4bn in 2024, up 3% year-on-year (+€6.6bn),” the EC said in a communiqué published on Tuesday.

The document notes that the UK remained the first importer of these products from the EU in 2024, representing 23 per cent of total exports (€53.9bn).

In 2024, exports from the EU increased to Switzerland (+€653m, +6%) and Japan (+€458m, +6%). Cereals, dairy products and wine top the list of exports.

Olives and cocoa products showed the biggest increase in value, mainly due to price hikes.
At the same time, EU agri-food imports reached €171.8bn, up 8% compared to 2023 (+€12.4bn). The UK, Ukraine and Brazil remained the EU’s largest suppliers.

The most imported products in value terms were cocoa and coffee, in particular due to the constant increase in global prices during the year, the EC explained. This was followed by fruit and nuts, as well as oilseeds and protein crops.
