Mohamed Abdi Ware, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, and Sylvie Tabesse, the EU Ambassador to Djibouti and IGAD, signed a €4 million funding agreement strengthening the EU-IGAD partnership on 27 February, according to an official website of the European Union.
The financial support underlines the EU’s recognition of the crucial role of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in promoting regional development and peace in the Horn of Africa.
The funds will help IGAD address regional challenges such as natural disasters, humanitarian crises, as well as peace and security issues. The agreement reflects a shared commitment to stability, security and development in the IGAD region.
The funding agreement emphasises the EU’s commitment to IGAD’s efforts to bring about positive change, with the belief that IGAD contributes to a more peaceful and prosperous Horn of Africa.
