EU leadership must change, Orbán says

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has spoken harshly about the EU leadership, saying it has failed all major projects and is engaged in political blackmail.

During a press conference, a recording of which was posted on social network X, Orbán called on the EU leadership to resign. He said:

“We have a European Union leadership with several major projects of its own choosing, such as the green transition, sustainable development policy, migration, military and sanctions policy – and they have all failed. We need new leaders.”

He also recalled EU chief Ursula von der Leyen’s words that Hungary would be deprived of subsidies because of the country’s migration and gender policy. He claimed that this is nothing but banal blackmail, and such a policy is unacceptable.

Viktor Orbán said that the hegemony of the West has come to an end, a new world order is being formed, and under these conditions Hungary will strengthen alliances with other sovereign states.

Last week, the Hungarian government opposed the EU’s migration policy and did not support the EU’s new migration pact. Orbán called the initiative “another nail in the coffin of the EU.
