The deputy head of the European Commission has said that the EU countries intend to allocate military aid to Ukraine worth €21 billion in 2024.
Valdis Dombrovskis mentioned that since the beginning of the war, the EU countries had already allocated €28 billion worth of arms and ammunition to Ukraine. In total, EU members have provided assistance to Ukraine worth €88 billion.
The figure of €21 billion may actually turn out to be even higher, according to him.
In addition, Dombrovskis emphasised the European Commission plans to allocate €4.5 billion of aid to Kyiv in March and €1.5 billion in April as part of a €50 billion programme to support Ukraine until 2027.
Ukraine’s recent performance on the battlefield led the French president, Emmanuel Macron, to announce that he might send troops to war with Russia, but shortly afterwards noted that “Not ruling something out does not mean doing it.”
The French president’s comments drew dissent from Germany: “We don’t need to really… talk about boots on the ground or having more courage or less courage,” German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said in Sweden on Tuesday. “This is something which does not really help solve the issues we have when it comes to helping Ukraine.”
