EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Magdalena Grono said on Thursday that the European Union continues to support Armenia and Azerbaijan on their path to lasting peace and strengthening regional co-operation.
During her trip to Yerevan, which lasted from November 18 to 19, Grono held a series of talks with key Armenian officials: Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and other representatives of the authorities. According to her, the discussions covered a wide range of topics: the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, the normalisation of relations between Armenia and Turkey, the development of regional co-operation, transport connectivity and humanitarian issues.
“I am grateful for the substantive exchange of views… The European Union supports its partners, Armenia and Azerbaijan, on their path to full-scale peace and regional success,” she emphasised.
Grono also said that during her visit she actively engaged with representatives of civil society, which, in her opinion, is important for building a sustainable peace.
EU support can play a stabilising role in the negotiations between Baku and Yerevan, especially if the parties are ready to move forward with the roadmap for peace.
However, despite Grono’s optimism, concerns remain: normalising relations requires not just declarations, but practical steps — delimitation, infrastructure projects, security guarantees.
