EU to hold budget summit on 1 February, including Ukraine funding

EU leaders will gather for a special summit in Brussels on 1 February 2024 to discuss a new financial aid package for Ukraine, POLITICO reports.

Last week, the decision to provide 50 billion euros in aid to Kyiv was postponed due to opposition from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

The aid package must be included in the revised EU budget, which means it requires unanimous approval from the 27 leaders.

European Council President Charles Michel said at a press conference on Monday that the next summit would focus on “convincing the 27th member state [Hungary] to agree so that we can take a unanimous decision on this issue.”
