European stock exchanges closed with declines

On Monday, major European stock exchanges closed on the downside, except for Italy.

The STOXX Europe 600 index, which accounts for about 90 per cent of European market capitalisation across 17 countries, fell 0.86 points, or 0.17 per cent, closing at 503.94.

Britain’s FTSE 100 index fell 4.87 points, or 0.06 per cent, to 7,722 points. The French CAC 40 fell 16 points, or 0.2%, to 8148.

Germany’s DAX 30 index fell almost four points, or 0.02 per cent, to end the session at 17,932 points. Spain’s IBEX 35 fell 1.2 points, or 0.01 per cent, ending the session at 10,596.

Italy was the only country on the stock exchange that did not experience a downgrade. Italy’s FTSE MIB index rose 0.93 points to 33,940 after trading.
