EU’s unhappiest country for 2023 unveiled

In 2023, the average life satisfaction score in the EU was 7.3 on a scale of 0 to 10, Eurostat said on Wednesday.

Life satisfaction can be influenced by many factors such as age, education level, family and financial situation.

Among the 27 EU countries, 15 have a rating at or above the EU average. Finland has the highest rating at 7.8, followed by Belgium, Austria, Romania and Slovenia (7.7 each). The lowest ratings were recorded in Bulgaria (5.9), Latvia and Greece (both 6.9).

Overall, in all countries except Bulgaria, the average life satisfaction rating exceeded 6 points, which means that survey respondents are satisfied rather than dissatisfied.
