Explosions were heard near Baghdad International Airport on Saturday morning, raising concerns across media outlets. A security source clarified that the blasts were caused by the controlled detonation of military remnants near the airport’s perimeter.
The source dismissed reports of a rocket attack on the US-led Global Coalition’s logistical support base, calling them inaccurate.
The Iraqi Security Media Cell (ISMC) confirmed that security forces carried out the controlled detonation in the Abu Ghraib area, located west of Baghdad.
Earlier, local and Arab media outlets reported sirens being activated after claims of a missile attack in the area. These reports have now been refuted.
This comes after a similar strike in September, which targeted the US Embassy logistics centre at the airport. The attack affected areas near the Anti-Terrorism Agency’s headquarters, though no injuries were reported.
