Finnish state-owned air carrier Finnair has cancelled more than 100 flights scheduled for Monday due to a strike by the Aviation Industry Union, and work at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport has been temporarily suspended.
In total, about 14,000 people are affected by the aviation industry workers’ strike. As Ilta-Sanomat reported a few days ago, the workers’ protest action will also affect the work of the airport’s baggage department.
The strike of the Aviation Industry Union is related to negotiations on a new collective agreement for air transport services with Finnish employers. More than 160 flights were cancelled at the end of last year for the same reason. Then passengers could not fly to Seoul, London, Amsterdam, Vienna, Berlin and other major cities.
Earlier Finland went on strike for the eighth time for workers in the meat industry and plants producing ready-to-eat food. It affected about 4 thousand people. The participants of the action did not perform their duties, unless they were related to emergency work and labour protection.
