A fire broke out at Walt Disney World’s Epcot theme park in Orlando, Florida, on Saturday afternoon, forcing hundreds of visitors to evacuate.
Thick black smoke rose above the park as flames started in a walk-in cooler behind the French Pavilion. Firefighters responded quickly to contain the situation.
Staff evacuated guests from Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, a 4D ride experience. Since it was spring break, one of the park’s busiest times, many visitors in the area also had to leave.
Authorities confirmed that the fire did not reach guest areas. They are still investigating the cause.
By 7:20 pm, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District fire department had extinguished the flames. Emergency teams cordoned off part of the area, but normal park operations resumed later that evening, according to MailOnline.
Epcot’s France Pavilion has gained popularity in recent years due to the Ratatouille-themed ride and new restaurants. The area also features a smaller replica of the Eiffel Tower.
Epcot, one of four main parks at Walt Disney World Resort, attracts over 100,000 visitors on weekends, especially during peak periods like spring break.
