Ford Motor Co. was recalling 272,827 Broncos and Mavericks due to a power issue that could cause the vehicles to stop or fail to start unexpectedly, AP News reported.
According to the National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration, the issue is related to a 12-volt battery manufactured by Chinese company Camel Battery. The battery is reported to have “internal manufacturing defects,” including weld failures that could cause the circuit to break.
The vehicles were produced between February 2021 and October 2023, when Ford stopped using those particular batteries. Last November, the company promised to review and improve its recall decision-making process and put it under the control of an independent third party.
The move came after the US government fined the company for acting too slowly on earlier recall.
NHTSA said that after the previous recall of the 2021-23 Ford Bronco Sport SUVs and 2022-2023 Ford Maverick pickups, some vehicles lost power, including the ability to activate emergency lights without warning.
