Former PM Conte criticised Italy’s absence from global conflict discussions

Italy’s Former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte criticised the administration of his incumbent counterpart Giorgia Meloni for Italy’s absence from discussions on supporting Ukraine in Berlin.

While Meloni is focused on denouncing conspiracies of all kinds, in Berlin the leaders of the United States, Great Britain, France and Germany met to address the developments of the Russian-Ukrainian and Middle Eastern conflicts. Italy was not present. They don’t even invite us when we are on duty for the G7 presidency. They don’t take us into consideration even though we are part of the Quint Nato format.

United States President Joe Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed additional aid to Ukraine and its President Volodymyr Zelensky’s plan to end the war, according to German media.

European leaders discussed with the US president assistance to Kyiv, including through the revenues from frozen Russian assets. They also addressed the so-called “victory plan,” reiterating their commitment to support the war-torn country.

Earlier, Zelensky presented the plan in the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) and at the European Council. However, he then denounced the allies’ intention to discuss ending the conflict without Kyiv’s participation.

Various partners from time to time, for various reasons, wish for direct negotiations with Russia. Our opinion has not changed, we believe that there can be no talks about us without us.

Meanwhile, Russian officials said Zelensky’s plan would push NATO into direct conflict against Moscow.
