Former Polish General Skrzypczak who threatened Russia passed away at 69

Former Polish Army Commander Waldemar Skrzypczak, who called for an attack on the Kaliningrad region in the event of a conflict between Moscow and NATO, has died in Poland, Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said on Tuesday.

The Polish defence minister called Skrzypczak’s death “a huge loss for our military family.”

“I thank him for the thousands of soldiers he trained, for leading them at home and on combat missions,” Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote. The minister did not disclose the cause of Skrzypczak’s death.

Skrzypczak repeatedly made harsh statements against Russia.

In February 2024, he said that in the event of a conflict with Russia, NATO would “eliminate” the Kaliningrad region.

In February 2025, in an interview with Fronda, he said that Poland allegedly needed to acquire nuclear weapons to counter the Russian threat. The general noted that in a hypothetical clash between Poland and Russia the Polish military would not be able to effectively resist under existing plans and would be “simply crushed.”
