Turkey has proposed a fuel embargo on Israel, Cumhuriyet reports.
Due to the reaction of the world community, Israel has slowed down the ground operation in Gaza. However, in order to stop it completely, it is necessary to resort to sanctions. For example, impose a fuel embargo on Israel.
Former Israeli Prime Minister Bennett said:
“The world community is no longer with us.”
Of course, even more importantly, Israel’s patron, the US, finds itself alone. The most important indicator is the fact that in a UN General Assembly vote of 120 in favour, 14 against and 45 abstentions, only 12 countries gave full support to the US and Israel.
That picture is primarily due to Israel’s attacks, which constitute genocide, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity. Revelations that Israel, which bombs hospitals, schools and places of worship, is even thinking of deporting Palestinians to the Egyptian desert, have made this “terror state” unacceptable even to many US allies.
The US administration, which has openly supported Israel since the first day of the war, is under intense pressure from the international community.
The American press wrote that Biden changed policy amid critical voices from his own party. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Biden administration said it was leaning towards Israel to launch attacks that would minimise civilian casualties and target Hamas leaders. The WSJ made it clear that the US and Israel are at odds over the Gaza issue in the long term.
This is enough to understand why the propagandised ground mop-up operation cannot be launched. Although based on the arrival of US aircraft carriers in the Eastern Mediterranean, it was claimed that the US and Israel would destroy Palestine, attack Iran and complete the Greater Middle East project by redrawing the map of the Middle East region.
However, the American administration, on the contrary, is making statements about the need for a “pause” and trying not to lose control over what is happening. First the White House said it supported a “humanitarian pause”, then on 2 November Biden said:
I guess we need to take a little breather.
Finally, US Secretary of State Blinken called for a “humanitarian pause” in Jordan on 5 November. In a further indication that things are not going well from the US perspective, former US President Barack Obama lashed out, noting:
Nobody’s hands are clean in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, we are all complicit to one degree or another.
Obama’s statement, especially at this stage, can certainly be seen as a kind of “balancing act” for the Democratic Party and the Biden administration.
