French authorities have launched an investigation into social media platform X over possible algorithm manipulation and alleged data fraud.
“X categorically denies these allegations,” the company said in a statement posted on the social network on Monday.
The statement noted that the investigation was initiated by French politician Eric Bothorel. According to company representatives, such actions threaten users’ rights to privacy and freedom of speech.
Earlier, Telegram founder Pavel Durov accused the French authorities of a “crusade” against freedom of speech and technological progress. He believes that such practices will scare away investors and damage the French economy “for decades.”
In early May, American entrepreneur and head of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Elon Musk announced the introduction of a new recommendation algorithm for users of social network X.
The project’s creators claim that this version of the algorithm differs from its counterparts in that it does not censor content and provides access to real-time information.
