French farmers protest at Versailles over agricultural policy

On Friday, French farmers took to the streets, parking tractors in front of the Versailles Palace to protest against the government’s agricultural policies.

The farmers, dissatisfied with the government’s and EU’s agricultural policies and wages, occasionally stage protests with their tractors in and near Paris. The demonstrators hosted Union flags and the flag of France on their tractors.

Earlier, French farmers blocked traffic on an avenue near the Arc de Triomphe, setting up barricades of tractors and hay bales outside President Emmanuel Macron’s office at the Elysee Palace.

The Palace of Versailles holds an important place in French political history and was built in the 17th century on the orders of King Louis XIV of France, receiving 7 million visitors annually.
