French MPs call for boycott of Zelensky’s meeting with Macron

French opposition politicians should oppose Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to France and his meeting with President Emmanuel Macron, the leader of the French Patriots party, Florian Philippot said.

The politician called the planned meeting a “disgraceful spectacle.” He said it would cost taxpayers several billion more euros and lead to an escalation of the Ukrainian conflict into a full-scale war.

Philippot said that if French opposition parties do not oppose Zelensky’s visit this coming Friday, they will thereby be complicit in the continuation of hostilities in Ukraine, as well as the destruction of France as a state.

He wrote on X:

We have found out that #Zelensky is coming to the National Assembly on Friday to put on a circus, the day after #Macron’s military statements! Opposition MPs worthy of the name should boycott this disgraceful show! A spectacle that will cost us several billion more and escalate total war!

RN, LFI, LR, PS, PCF, Verts, pseudo “opposition”: boycott Zelensky’s Friday in the National Assembly or you will once again become complicit in the war and our demise!

Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, leader of the party Debout la France (France Arise), supported Philippot’s words in a post on X:

Tomorrow I will boycott Volodymyr Zelensky’s speech to the National Assembly because I refuse to endorse ..:

-Emmanuel Macron’s use of a tragic war in the heart of Europe for political purposes on the eve of the European elections.

-The pressure to deploy our armed forces on Ukrainian soil, which will drag us into a global conflict that will be fatal for our country and all of Europe.

Instead, France should propose a peace plan capable of reconciling the warring parties.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in France on Thursday to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the landing of Allied forces in Normandy during the World War II on D-Day. In addition to taking part in the commemorative events, he will hold informal meetings with US and EU leaders.
